Stabyhoun
The Stabyhoun is one of the most popular dogs in its native Netherlands but is little known elsewhere in the world.
This is an excellent, all-purpose sporting dog, nowadays kept mainly as a companion house dog. It is reliable with children, has an affectionate nature, is easily trained and has an eauable temoerament. It is a splendid retriever with a good nose.
Origin and history
The Stabyhoun was recognized by the Dutch Kennel Club in 1942, but it has existed in the Netherlands since as long ago as 1800. It was bred in the Friesland district as an all-purpose gundog but was primarily a dispeller of vermin. Crossed with the Wetterhoun, it made a formidable ratter.

Size
Dog up to 19'12in (49.5cm) at the withers, bitch somewhat smaller.
Exercise
The Stabyhoun excels at working in the field as a retriever, doing the job for which it was bred. It adapts well to town life as long as it -has ample opportunity to run free.

General characteristics
A simple. robust pointer whose body is longer than it is high; the dog should appear neither too massive nor too fragile.
Colour
Dappled black, dappled blue, dappled brown, dappled orange.
Head
Lean; in good proportion to the rest of the body; longer than It is broad. Skull and muzzle are of equal length. The skull IS slightly rounded, not narrow. The nose IS black for brown and orange dogs. It is not divided; the nostrils are well open and large.
Tail
Long, reaching to the hocks. It IS set on at medium height and hangs straight with the last third turned upward. In action, the tail is raised. It is covered all around with long hair, which is neither curled nor wavy and not too thick.
Feet
The hind feet are round with strong pads.
Stabyhoun Feeding & Grooming
Grooming
The Stabyhoun should be groomed two or three times a week with a good pony dandy brush and a medium-toothed comb in order to remove dead fur. During these grooming sessions, inspect the ears for signs of canker or foreign matter and Inspect the feet for dirt, thistles and the like
Feeding
About 13-200z (369-587g) of a branded, meaty product with bisCUIt added in equal part by volume, or 13/4-3 cupfuls of a complete dry food, mixed in the proportion of 1 cup of feed to '12 cup of water.
