Kromfohrlander

The Kromfohrlander is a powerful dog with a long, wedge-shaped head, rectangular body and strong, sturdy legs. It was developed from a cross between a Griffon and a terrier.

This is a faithful and intelligent dog with guarding and hunting instincts. Regrettably it is little known outside Germany.

Origin and history

The Kromfohrlander has come Into being only since the end of World War II. Legend has it that a group of American soldiers, accompanied by a medium-sized dog, passed through the Siegen area of Germany. There the dog was found a new home with a Frau Schleifenbaum, who already owned an English Wire-haired Terrier bitch The resultant progeny from the first and subsequent litters were so pleasing that it was decided to develop a specific type, eventually known as the Kromfohrlander. In 1953 the breed received recognition by the German Kennel Club.
